In 2014, The View Winery saw the planting of its first block of Pinot Noir. Over 1000 years old, originating from the Burgundy region of France, Pinot Noir is derived from the French terms for pine, and black. Black refers to the grape colour, which takes on exceptionally dark purple colours closer to harvest. Pine refers to the tightly clustered pine-cone shape the grape bunches form during ripening. Three unique clones of Pinot Noir were planted, clones 667, 777 and 115. Planting a variety of clones in the vineyard allows for a unique expressiveness and increased complexity in the winemaking stage. For instance, Clone 115 is noted for its high level of structure, while Clone 777 offers high levels of aromatics.
